Code against spam

Recently we read the phpBB3 captcha, which is the image with letters and numbers you see at the user registration form and also when an anonymous visitor is posting, has been broken by spammers. This means they have devised a technology to scan and decode the content of those images so that their spam bots can register and publish their spam in any phpBB3 forum, including those hosted with us.

A couple of days ago we added a code to our forums that is intended to stop these bots from posting, whether they are registered or not. Some of you may have experienced some trouble when posting. Especially emoticons, bbcode and font formatting not working properly. This problem affected Firefox and Safari users and has now been fixed.

Any users who are unable to post no, please check that you have javascript enabled in your browser.

There will be additional anti spam measures we will be implementing during the next few days, as a new mandatory captcha for user registration. We will also publish a tutorial explaining what you can do on your side.

Hopefully all of this will help keep our forums clean.
